Dish Network

By jelly | November 15, 2008

Dish network came today and hooked everything up.  Their installer was very nice and polite.  He hooked up all the rooms and everythign worked fine.  I didn’t have any hdmi cables for installation so I had to buy them from him.  I was afraid he would rape me on the cost but happily enough they were on $20.00 each.  I could buy them for cheaper on the net but thats about what I would pay in the store so thats more than fair.

Tv’s look fantastic in HD, The picture and sound is awesome and now I love them.

Had one small problem with the dish network as the guide wasn’t updating so when we were trying to set up recordings of our favorite shows they were not being found by the search.  30 minutes with tech support and they had me do a switch test and now everythign works great.  I’m very happy with the setup now as I have tv in the bedroom, and dvr in the great room and basement.

I also like the new hardware, I think on my tivo/DTV setup I got about 60 hours worth of programming before it started deleting shows.  I also never liked that it didn’t tell you how much room you have, it just would start to delete things and thats how you knew you were full.  on the Dish I get 350 hours of regular or 60 hours of HD.  And it shows you exactly what you have so its much easier to work with.  Also they allow you to attach a external hard drive so you can bump up the space by and extra TB if you want.  I wonder what they store the files as, I guess it would be too much to ask to be in a format that I could unplug it from the receiver and plug it into my computer :)

Right now they just look like normal tv’s :(   although they do look perdy :)

tv’s

By jelly | November 14, 2008

Well Ecost true to its word sent out a new tv to me, and it was received intack :)

I must say I’m pretty happy with the way they handled everything, they charged me for the new one pending me sending the broken one back but 9 days after shipping it, the credit has shown up on my CC statement.

I still haven’t seen the credit back yet for the freight which was supposed to be 2 days but took 3.  They said they will credit it but I’ll probably call them to remind them ;-)

tvs and ecost.com

By jelly | November 5, 2008

so far so good, on replacing the broken tv, I am sending the broken one back, on their dime, they picked it up yesterday.

I am supposed to receive the new one today which was sent out 2nd day because thats the shipping that I orginially had on the order.

I had to pay for the replacement but they said they would credit it out when they received the broken one back. So far I’m very happy with the service.

My biggest problem now is the tv is in today and we are supposed to have rain and snow for the next 3 days, I’ll need to figure out a way to get it home since I have to put it in teh back of the truck.

Tv’s

By jelly | November 3, 2008

So I broke down and bought two tv’s last week.

A 47″ lcd for the living room and a 42″ lcd for the bedroom.

I accidentally chose 2nd day air when purchasing them from ecost.com, and sent them an email immediately to see if they could change it to ground.  I never got a response and honestly I forgot about it so the next thing I knew it I was advised it shipped, oh well 200 still isn’t bad for freight, and now I’ll get them faster :)

they were supposed to arrive on Thursday of last week but DHL had a mix up and they actually didn’t show up until friday.   3 day instead of 2 day.  I called DHL and they said yes its guaranteed, so they will refund the freight amount to ecost.com  Now I just need to get them to rebate back me, and then I get 3 day freight for FREE!!!!!!!!!!

upon inspection of the tv’s the 47″ one is smashed :( I contacted DHL and they were very nice, saying they have notated it and then I just need to contact ecost and they will send me a new one.  I haven’t called ecost yet but I will this morning, hopefully everything is easy from that end.  but until then I still need to wait for my tv :(

back from DC and VA

By jelly | October 28, 2008

Went to DC and to Williamsburg VA this past week.

I will update later with pictures but for now a very brief summary

DC is big, expensive and lots of walking.  the buildings and statues are very impressive,

Array

but after that the rest of the city is no big deal

Williamsburg,  good for kids and if you like history, not good if you are not.

Another week

By jelly | October 14, 2008

I got through the weekend okay.

it was my daughters birthday so we had a family party on friday and a kids party on saturday.
Everything went good but after 13 kids at your house for 3-4 hours you definitely need time to decompress.

My parents came in for the bday which is good they helped alot, although I think its weird that they drove 1100 miles and then only stayed for 3 days :(

anyway now I’ve got to get alot of things cleaned up so that I can go on holidays on saturday.

bad service

By jelly | October 6, 2008

Last week when I was taking out some dead trees I noticed that I had a pretty big hydraulic leak from 3 of the hoses on my tractor. I decided that I would take off the 3 and take them in to have new ones built so I would be ready for winter.

So I took the hoses off, not a trivial matter, took about 45 minutes and I was coated with fluid for my trouble.

took them into the tractor dealership, about 10 miles away because the one that was 4 miles away apparently closed down. I guess that’s to be expected in this economy. $74.00 I have new hoses. I go to put them on on Saturday and noticed that they reused one of my fittings from my old hose. I figured it must have been okay but after 45 minutes of putting the hoses back on, I start the tractor and notice that its still leaking hydraulic from guess where, the center of that fitting.

To say that I was pissed off, would be an understatement. I decide its a small leak so I will try to scrap the field with it and just keep an eye into it, after 5 minutes it starts spewing like old faithful, turn off the tractor Say a lot of swear words. I figured out a way to get the fitting off and off to the store I go. Luckily they had the adapter there so came back put it on and everything works. I have a small leak out of one of the cast fittings but its just a slow drip. I’ll look if I can fix that later but at least for now the tractor is working.

weekend

By jelly | September 29, 2008

I didn’t make it to the gym again this weekend, and I don’t have high hopes for it this weekend. I have too much stuff on the go.

I cut down all the trees we transplanted last year, what a waste :( and in the process I found out that I had 3 leaking hydraulic hoses on my tractor, so now I have to take care of those and get them fixed. I took them down to the John Deere tractor dealership in my town and its closed :( so now I have to take them to one further away.
