Linux Desktop
My ubuntu computer
Thursday, March 20th, 2008So installing linux on my desktop computer has been frustrating to say the least. I am down to two more things to try, if neither of them work I’m really at a loss.
I’m going to try a script called Envy which is supposed to detect and install the correct video card for your system. If [...]

Linux desktop does not mean more support
Thursday, March 13th, 2008One of the biggest things I was worried about with switching certain users over to Ubuntu linux was they were not going to be able to do anything and would constantly be bothering my IT department with questions of how can I do this and how can I do that. So far this has not [...]
Linux likes nvidia
Thursday, March 13th, 2008One thing I can confirm now from building a couple of ubuntu boxes. Ubuntu likes nvidia way more than ATI. I’ve had a problem getting the screens configured correctly with ATI boards but so far nvidia ones have flown through easily.
I’m waiting until my new nvidia board gets delivered on friday and then I will [...]
Linux desktop and wine
Wednesday, March 12th, 2008I have found a solution to having to run some applications in wine. The people who need to run these aps are very few, so I think the easiest thing to do is to have them running on one of our windows servers and then the users can just RDP to that box if they [...]
linux desktop day 4
Friday, March 7th, 2008No problems today, which is good because we had problems elsewhere in the company and could not donate any time to this project if one arrose. So far everything is going very good, the printing is still a little bit of a hurdle and is preventing me implementing to other people but we are waiting [...]
Linux desktop day 3
Thursday, March 6th, 2008No major problems today, the user had no issues :) Our PCL add on came from Canon today for our all in one. It was sent second day air, and I was told an engineer would come to install it. I was expecting a board. it was a license key, actually it wasn’t even a [...]

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008as a follow up, evolution does have in preferences, where I told the user to look :(, two fancy little check boxes, one for auto complete from contact list, and one for show images. Actually I really like that for show images it has a choice that you can show images for emails from people [...]
