denver stock show

By jelly | January 20, 2009

I went to the denver stock show on the weekend. Since I’ve lived here now for 10 years I was surprised I never went. Probably because I never knew exactly what it was. I assumed it was just 4h kids showing sheep and cows.

I really had fun at it. I don’t know anything specific but it was a good time, I didn’t get to go through all of the trade show floor which had some very interesting things in it. but I did see enough that it would be a good thing to go to again. There are petting zoos, lots of animals to see. Events, picture opportunities.

The reason we went was for the super dogs show. It was good but I was a little disappointed with it. I don’t know what I was expecting but it was hard to see alot of it and the dogs are so fast that everything is over and done with so quick. The one thing I thought was cool was the weave polls. I also liked that they had a lot of different types of dogs. Obviously the border collies see to be the fastest at everything but they don’t fill the show with them, they had Burmese mountain dogs and English sheep dogs as well. Also its cool that 1/2 the dogs are rescue dogs.

They do have one amazing dog, not sure on the breed, that can jump what looks to be almost 6′ in the air. I’ve had dogs that could jump over 6′ fences but they would jump get their front paws on the top of the fence then pull themselves over. This dog cleared it without touching and without much run up either.

As a whole I did like the show. Parking is expensive, we paid $15.00 from a company on the back side to park, but everything insides was reasonable.
