Linux desktop day 2

By jelly | March 5, 2008

Only 3 problems on day 2, all were fixed easily.

1.  Sound did not work.  Changed it to be USB and it worked, I have no idea why, but it worked and thats all I cared about ;-)

2.  They couldn’t access a pop email account, ends up they were using the wrong username and password :) took an hour to figure out that since they were adamant that it was correct.

3.  Wanted their bookmarks from their windows machine.  It was very easy export from IE, transfer the file over and import into firefox.

The only hurdle I have left is printing.  To print we required a PCL board from our printer manufacturer.  As soon as its installed we will try to get printing working.  If I can clear that hurdle then I will start putting other people  who don’t require any windows specific applications over.

Next we will start looking at some windows aps to see if they work in wine.
