ATP photo finder day 2
By jelly | July 19, 2008
So far i have yet to get it to work.
I have read that it works beter on non-rechargable batteries so I am going to get some today and give it a try.
Their documentation is really bad. It says it will connect to the GPS and pick up the current time, it does this but it displays GMT, which is fine if the documentation tells you this, but it says the opposite. Then you take some pictures, assuming that the camera should be at the local time, for me GMT-7.
When you then take your SD card out and put in the ATP photo finder, it ask you time zone, so I select GMT-7 and the next message says no pictures tagged. I’ve tried setting my camera to GMT so the ATP and it are at exactly the same time on the display and still it will not tag any photo’s.
It also allows you to upload to the SD card KMT data for google earth and it shows a track of where you have been. I was sitting on my deck the whole time I tried this, but if you look at the data on Goole earth it has me criss crossing about 1/2 mile of my neighbourhood.
hopefully it gets fixed with new batteries but I doubt it.

ATP Photo Finder
By jelly | July 17, 2008
I received a ATP Photo finder today, I haven’t tried it out yet but I’ll report when I do.
What it is supposed to do is first sync your clock on it to your clock on your camera.
Then you turn it on and it will aquire GPS satelites. and take a GPS coordinate and log it every 5 minutes.
then you take pictures as normal with your camera. After you are done you take out your media card and insert it into the photo finder.
IT will then look at the times on the pictures and figure out where you were when you took the photo
Then it will add that to the picture data on the card.
I’ll try testing it tonight and see how it works

foxes
By jelly | July 16, 2008
I got some good pictures, well good with my phone, of the foxes that are living on our road. They live in the culvert and there is at least 3 of them. When I took this picture there was another one out in a field and one more in the culvert.

Fishing
By jelly | July 14, 2008
I’m getting ready this week to go fishing next Monday. I am going to be spending 4 days on a boat fishing off the coast of northern BC for Salmon, Cod and anything else I might want to catch.
I haven’t really thought too much about it lately other than that I’m a person who likes their space and being on a small boat for 4 days with 6 other people will not allow me any of that.
I hope it all goes good and is fun. It’s going to be weird for me however since I’ve never been out of contact in about 10 years. This will be the first time that I won’t have my blackberry on my hip answering emails and phone calls during a vacation. That part is a little liberating.

I’ve decided on a secondary job opportunity
By jelly | July 9, 2008
I’ve been trying to come up with a way of making some extra cash lately. Not a get rich fast scheme or a way to get money without working, but a way to make a steady income while still working at my full time job.
I’ve decided that something that I like to do, and do quite regularly for my company, is to design and have build custom applications. I have good contacts with programmers that can get programs done quickly and cheaply. These programmers are located off shore so their salaries are very reasonable, and I would act as a on shore contact to make sure the customers are happy and have someone to talk to on the phone as they need to discuss any problems or design changes. If the project is large enough I could even fly in for meetings to discuss everything first hand.
Projects could be quoted on a time and material basis, or project basis.
Since I have been using the offshore programmers for my own business for the past 2 years I have 100% confidence that they can deliver high quality code in a quick time frame for a reasonable dollar.
I think this is a good model for smaller companies who don’t want to have their own systems departments but require custom applications, or companies that don’t want to have the responsibilities of having more employees, with contracted services there are no HR headaches.
I will be working in the next week to get a website introducing the company up and running so that I can start trying to find clients. That will be the biggest hurdle but I’m not looking to turn this into a huge enterprise right away so a couple small clients is perfect for me to manage.

jewelry spam

I have been attacked for the last few days with jewelry spam. I’m probably getting 60 comments per day all from unique IP addresses.
Glad I have that all comments must first be approved ![]()

Fireworks
By jelly | July 4, 2008
Went and saw a big fireworks display on the the 4th. Watched it from up on a hill from the back of the truck. Much nicer than having to deal with crowds.
We haven’t had any rain in a long time so we watched as two big fires broke out from the professional fireworks display, I guess thats why they have the fire department on hand.
There also was a fire that started just in front of us in a farmers field, I guess it was a good thing we were there because someone quickly put it out by kicking dirt on it. if we wouldn’t have been there it would have grown pretty fast.

Summer
By jelly | July 2, 2008
Why does it seem that even though Summer days are so much longer than the winter days, I have so much less time to get everything done. If the days are longer I should have more time.
I get home now and I’m pressed to get everything done that I want to before bed time, where in the winter I seem to have lots of time to sit around and do very little.
